Hey there! Welcome to Culford Company, a woman run artistic haven all about nurturing early career creatives.
We're not your typical theatre company. Nope, we're a bunch of innovative souls who thrive on embracing change and thinking outside the box. Oh, and did we mention that we kickstarted our journey right before the pandemic hit? We don’t want to toot our own horn too hard, but talk about being adaptable, creative, and resourceful!
So, what's our gig? Well, we're all about platforming & supporting the artistic development of early career creatives, sparking conversations on contemporary issues and smashing those preconceived notions of what theatre should be.
Ready for the juicy part? Our debut project, Eggshells, is a real cracker! It's a powerful family drama that tackles eco-anxiety, infertility, and how we face problems that have no solution. We've spent the last few years digging deep into character development, world building & exploring our key theme, then we chucked them all out in the open during our R&D at Arcola Theatre (check out the photos on our homepage) it was a mega juicy time!
But hold onto your hats, because there's more to come! We're currently hunkered down, in our beautiful studio in Dalston (looking for a space to get creative? We rent out our studio space on a pay what you can basis, drop us a message for more info)), passionately scribbling away on the first draft of the Eggshells script. Our work - Eggshells
Eggshells is our debut play, a family drama exploring eco-anxiety, infertility & living with problems that have no solution.
Rosa can’t see a future beyond melting ice caps & wildfires. Her ecoanxiety forces her into making the decision not to have children, entangling her fiancé Theo into a life plan he doesn’t fully understand. Her cousin Maryam shrinks away from the world as her dream of becoming a mother is taken away by her endometriosis. Meanwhile, Rosa’s father Geoff searches for a purpose beyond caring for his elderly mother Vivien, who has been unable to grasp the independence she’s been longing for her whole life.
Eggshells is a family drama that explores the question: how can we live with problems that have no solutions?
Diving into the issues of climate anxiety, infertility & isolation, Eggshells paints the picture of a family reaching for each other in different directions.
Culford Company is a small, independent theatre company. We make theatre that explores the human condition & helps early career artists gain skills & experience. We are passionate about telling untold stories, representing the unrepresented & making our theatre accessible for all.

Our work is a passion project and we are working hard to bring this theatre to audiences. We are a small company with no overheads so any donations made will go directly towards the development of our work, including:
